Windows Specific (continued)
Q: The game installed correctly, but nothing happens or I get an error message when I try to launch the game. What could be the problem?
A: Microsoft DirectX 8.1 or above needs to be installed in order to play the game. This is only necessary for Windows 98, ME and 2000, which come with older versions of DirectX (6 or 7). If the game refuses to start, it means that the compatibility check fails at some level.
At the end of the installation, the installer program prompts the user to install DirectX 8.1 if it is not already installed on your computer. It is possible that the version of DirectX was not detected properly during the installation. To make sure that DirectX is properly installed, you can manually start the DirectX installation program this way:
1. Insert Disk 1 in your CD-ROM Drive.
A window offering you to Play or Quit comes up on the screen.
2. Click the Quit button to close the window.
The window closes.
3. Click on My Computer in the Start menu.
The My Computer window opens up.
4. Right-click on the CD-ROM drive in the My Computer window.
A context menu appears on your screen.
5. Click on Open in the context menu.
The contents of disk 1 is displayed in the My Computer window.
6. Double-click the DirectX folder to open it.
The contents of the folder is displayed.
7. Double-click the DX81Redist executable file.
A little window named WinZip Self-Extrator comes up.
8. Click the Unzip button.
The files are unzipped to the location specified (usually C:\Windows\Temp or C:\WINNT\Temp)
9. Navigate to the Temp folder in My Computer after the unzipping.
10. Double-click the file dxsetup.exe inside the folder DX81Redist.
The DirectX 8.1 installation program launches.
Q: DirectX 8.1 or above is properly installed on my computer and the game refuses to launch. What could be the problem?
A: It is possible that your sound and/or video is not compatible with DirectX 8.1. Try to activate DirectX 7 compatbility mode this way:
1. Insert the Mia Disk 1 in yout computer.
The CD-ROM startup window appears on the screen.
2. Click on the Options button in the window.
3. Check the DirectX Safe-Mode option by clicking on the empty circle.
This activates DirectX 7 compatibility. You will not need to repeat these steps in the future.
4. Click on the Play button.
The game starts. If the game still doesn't launch properly, send us an e-mail message at service@kutoka.com.
